long carrier
Produced
from 1892 to 1924 (prefix letter « F » up to 1897, «
G » between 1897 and 1902, « H » up to 1915, « I
» for units repaired during WW I, and « L » from 1920
to 1924), this ordnance revolver serviced up to 1962 in the Algerian
conflict.
Foreign
ordnance revolvers in 8 mm 92
First
revolver in its category, the Mdle 1892 becomes a double reference for
its modernity and its smokeless cartridge which power has often been
overevaluated.
France,
since Napoleon's Premier Empire, keeps en enormous prestige in warfare
subjects and its new revolver beats a very poor European competition.
That will drive the manufacturers to propose 1892 revolvers in foreign
calibers but also some in 8 mm 92 !
